Orthodontic treatment for adults
More adults are now seeking orthodontic treatment as well aligned teeth are easier to brush and floss. There are also many more treatment options available these days which are more aesthetically pleasing – a must for many of our adult patients.
Types of orthodontic treatment
In adults where the growth of the jaw is already complete, the purpose of orthodontic treatment is to place the teeth into their correct positions for an optimal bite, to optimise smile and facial aesthetics, and to establish proper jaw function.
Invisalign: One of the most discrete treatment options for our adult patients is Invisalign. The custom-moulded, series of clear, plastic aligners work to gradually move teeth into a straighter position. Because the aligners are virtually invisible, this makes Invisalign particularly suitable for professionals in client-facing roles.
Invisalign i7: Invisalign also has another treatment option for adults who just want a quick fix. Invisalign i7 aligners are used in cases where minor treatment is needed on the front six teeth. This may be to correct a slightly crooked tooth, or to move previously straightened teeth back into position, if the results of previous orthodontic work haven’t remained. Because Invisalign i7 is designed for minor cases, patients can see results in as little as three months.
Is orthodontic treatment right for you?
The basic process involved in moving teeth is the same at any age so orthodontic treatment can be successful for adults. However, it’s important to know that because an adult’s facial bones are no longer growing, some severe malocclusions can’t be corrected with braces alone. In such cases, orthodontic treatment combined with jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) can achieve improvements. We can discuss your orthodontic treatment with you at a free consultation.
