Are My Wisdom Teeth Going to Affect My Orthodontic Treatment

Apr 18, 2024

Hi, I’m Dr Mike, the principal orthodontist at Allstar Orthodontics here in Brisbane.

Yesterday, one of our new patients Olivia from Paddington just started her Invisalign clear aligner treatment. During her consultation, she asked me, “ Hey Mike, do I need to remove my wisdom teeth?”

As an orthodontist, I get this question quite often, whether or not it’s necessary to remove their wisdom teeth before getting an orthodontic treatment. So I thought I’d make this short video to help you gain more insight about it.

Are My Wisdom Teeth Going to Affect My Orthodontic Treatment

You’ll be pleased to hear that most times wisdom teeth don’t have to be removed for orthodontic treatment. But it’s important that your orthodontist is able to look at an x-ray to assess the position of your wisdom teeth and see if that’s going to affect the straightening of your teeth in any way. In a small number of cases wisdom teeth do need to be removed, and your orthodontist is the best person to advise you about this.

But the majority of times, for orthodontic treatments, the wisdom teeth can be left alone.

So, if you’re looking to straighten your teeth, or maybe you’ve been thinking about it for a while, we’d love to look after you.

Simply call us on 07 3666 0096, complete the form on our website, or send us a DM on Instagram and Facebook, and we’ll be in touch to help you organise a consultation. See you in the next video.
